A Shore Thing

After spending a couple of days at our house, we all spent 3 days on the coast together seeing the sights and playing on the beach. Jason, the kids and I stayed in Cannon Beach. We hadn't spent much time there before, but it turned out to be a great place to stay. It had lots of quaint shops and a candy shop we visited more than once. Caleb found this mask in an import store.
We covered a lot of area over three days. The first day was spent in and around Tillamook. We went to the Tillamook cheese factory of course!
We also went to Cape Meares lighthouse, but it was too foggy to even see the ocean.
On our second day started off with exploring tide pools at Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach.
Classic Jason-Pepsi in hand and acting silly.

Then it was off to Astoria. This is from the top of the Astoria column.
Then we went to the docks to see the sea lions. There was only one there at the time, but one was all we needed. We annoyed him pretty quickly.
Then a stop at a shipwreck.
Our last stop that day was Seaside. We got there pretty late, so we went back the next day to see more of the town. Here's Shawn with the Seaside Candyman.
Some of us did a little crabbing off the 12th St. bridge.
Of course we can't catch a crab without humiliating it. This guy is drinking a gummy bottle of cola.
It was a beautiful day for the beach. Ethan always insists on going to our favorite beach-Indian beach. There are always surfers there.
And lots of rocks and tide pools to explore. This is Ethan's bucket o' crabs.
Another great idea of Ethan's was playing a joke on the seagulls a la Jason and Shawn's childhood "Magic Carpet ride".

We had a great time while Shawn, Melissa and their family were here. We love to show off this great area we live in, so come pay us a visit!
