Gobble, Gobble!

This was our first Thanksgiving all by ourselves. We were just in Utah a few weeks ago with our family, so we weren't missing them too much today. We debated whether to go to a restaurant for turkey dinner this year, but I wanted to do it up "Farnworth style" for dinner and I must say that I think it was the best tasting turkey dinner I have ever had! We did most of the work the night before, so there wasn't a lot of work for us today. We put our turkey in the oven this morning then went to deliver a couple of dinners to seniors for the Meals on Wheels people. We got to meet a couple of nice ladies and see new places. We literally drove over the river and through the woods to deliver these meals!
I hadn't seen Mt. Hood for a while so I shot this picture on the way.
When we got back we stuffed ourselves.
It has been a relaxing holiday and we have so much to be grateful for this Thanksgiving!

This Past Week

Last Saturday Jason, Ethan and I ventured to the Beaverton Farmers Market. It is one of the biggest in the Portland area and it didn't disappoint. We got some fabulous food-beets, apples, beans, and some yummy treats. We will definitely be back next summer when it reopens.

After the farmers market we went to the Portland aerial tram. We provided some extra entertainment as Jason tried to navigate us there as I didn't listen to him with Ethan laughing at us from the back seat. We managed to get to the terminal (thanks to me) after a while. The aerial tram connects the light rail to OHSU (Oregon Health and Sciences University). It provides an awesome view of the city and it's just fun riding a tram.


Then on Sunday it snowed! Then it got REALLY cold. What people have said is true-when it gets below freezing the roads get very icy. Jason worked from home this week and we stayed home for a couple of days. The kids were hoping school would be canceled, but that didn't happen. I guess I shouldn't have made fun of Jason for buying a new coat a couple of months ago. It DOES get cold here. We've had a couple of clear sunny days, which I'm grateful for, before we go back into the constant rain.
In other random news, Caleb got the good news that he is getting his braces off in 6 weeks! He has only had them on for 6 months, but his underbite has corrected unusually fast. I thought we would have 3 kids in braces, but Ethan won't get his for about 3 months.

You Will Be Missed

On October 30th we got the news that Jason's dad had passed away. The next day we drove back to Utah for the funeral and to spend the week with family and friends.
Sharell was a great man. He had so many talents-woodworking, painting, making jewelry, rock collecting. He could make anything out of wood-furniture, toys, birdhouses, etc. Over the past couple of years he was really into making Hopi Kachina dolls. He made over one hundred of them.
We were able to display some of the things he had made and some pictures from throughout his life at the visitation and funeral. My sister-in-law Melissa made a great photo album showcasing all of his attributes.
It was so wonderful to have all of Jason's siblings together. It was such a busy week, but we loved spending all the time we could with them. The boys especially loved playing with their cousins.
Spending the week in Utah made me realize how wonderful our friends and family are. They offered so much love and support. Thank you!
Sharell, we will miss you!

Halloween Party

The Friday before Halloween we had our own pumpkin carving party. Hiram was at a football game, so he didn't get a chance to make a jack-o-lantern, but the rest of us came up with some pretty good designs.










I made sugar cookies for the first time in years and we had a cookie decorating contest. The rule was you couldn't vote for your own. Everyone voted for Ethan's.
